iSURVEY, a Taiwan-based market survey agency, recently issued a survey report entitled “Big Impact from Stay-at Home Economy: Full Analysis of Money, Time, and Behaviors”, which investigates the behavioral change of consumers under the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Under the influence of the epidemic situation, three major phenomena are observed with respect to consumer status: 1) consumption displacement caused by stay-at-home economy – although the consumption volume is not decreased, the consumption pattern has changed; 2) epidemic information dominates consumers’ attention and government influence has increased – the public are concerned about COVID-19 epidemic situation; 3) vaccine and effective cure for COVID-19 will be the key to the backflow of consumers.
The Taiwan ROC Direct Selling Association (the Taiwan DSA) will continue to optimize the management of its Facebook Fans Page “DS Ethics” at DSA.org.tw in order to create more photos, articles, and video/audio materials with higher social media influence, continue to promote public education on DSA Code of Ethics, and increase the acceptance of the Taiwan DSA and DSA Code of Ethics self-discipline by distributors. In addition, the Taiwan DSA has also set digital promotion as one of its major tasks in 2020 in the hope of making distributors agree more with our efforts and vision and consumers know better about the DS industry in order to break the myths and create a brand image of constantly promoting Ethics self-discipline and strict quality assurance for the Taiwan DSA..
In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, in order to make its member companies adopt high ethical standards when selling products and prevent consumers from receiving misleading product claims, the Taiwan DSA sent a letter to its member companies on March 27, 2020 to require them and their associated distributors to refrain from making misleading claims to imply that their products have medical efficacy and are capable of treating COVID-19 or withstand viral infection in order to avoid breaking the law. The Taiwan DSA requires member companies to strictly abide by the Code of Ethics in order to create a good dustrial environment. Some related provisions of the Code of Ethics are as follows:

2.1 Prohibited behaviors
Direct selling companies or their distributors must not have misleading, deceptive, immoral, or illegal business or soliciting behaviors. Member companies must not issue any statements, guarantees or recommendations that might mislead potential consumers or distributors.
2.7 Product declarations, quality assurance, and after-sales services
Any product declarations made by direct selling companies or their distributors shall be affixed with effective and reliable proofs and must not mislead consumers. The purchase orders placed by consumers shall be handled and completed in an instant manner. The following information shall be affixed to the order sheet or other affixes, or the product itself: quality assurance conditions, method and scope of after-sales services, name and address of the guarantor, and warranty period and compensation method to be enjoyed by the purchaser.
2.8 Promotional materials
All promotional materials, leaflets, or letters shall not contain any exaggerating, deceptive, or misleading product information, declarations, descriptions, photos or illustrations, instead they shall be affixed with the full name and address or phone number of the company or distributor.
With the continuous spread of COVID-19 in 2020, Atomy Taiwan feels the same way. With the start of school season in March, Mr. Song Mo Koo, President of Atomy Taiwan, when hearing that many parents were anxious about the difficulty to buy children masks, took the initiative to contact the Education Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government to donate 16 thousand children masks in the hope of working together with everyone in anti-coronavirus and safeguarding the safety of more school children. In addition, at the time when pandemic prevention supplies are precious, Atomy Taiwan donated an infrared thermal imaging system to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of National University of Kaohsiung. The thermal imaging system is set up at the entrance of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which is composed of 6 academic departments, to take the temperature of more than 1000 faculty members and students moving in and out of the college building every day in order to safeguard the safety of teachers and students of the College during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Taiwan ROC Direct Selling Association (the Taiwan DSA) elected its 16th term of Board of Directors and Supervisors in the first General Assembly meeting held at the end of 2019, in which Ms. Shaline Chang, General Manager of NU SKIN Taiwan, waselected to serve as the Chairwoman of the 16 th term of the Board.
The Taiwan DSA is to celebrate its 30 th anniversary in 2020. Over the years, with thecautious efforts of numerous predecessors, the direct selling industry in Taiwan has gradually developed in a steady manner. The newly elected Chair of the Board Ms. Shaline Chang pledged to work with new directors and supervisors to promote the business of the Taiwan DSA and integrate the resources of its member companies to work with the government, public opinion agencies, and various industrial organizations in order to expand the influence of the direct selling industry and strengthen its positive image. The newly established Secretariat will serve the Taiwan DSA and its member wholeheartedly and work with all member companies to move toward a sustainable future development together and welcome another 30th anniversary for the Taiwan DSA.
